The region's primary form of governing bodies is akin to a feudal system. A kingdom has a titular head who rules across the entire country. Supporting the King are the Dukes, who are responsible for managing a section of the country. Reporting to the dukes are the lesser nobles, consisting of Counts managing smaller groups of towns and resource producers or providers.
In all cases, the lower section of the nobility owed allegiance to those above. This fealty involved taxation and the maintenance of troops for the dukes or the King's standing army.
This top-down approach appears in several widely different forms, from the basic feudal hierarchy of The Kingdom of Gorath to the Theocracy of The Sun and the mercantile cities of the Ursa. It could even cover the Free Cities in the Isles of the Baird.
